Right now is the season for many people’s favorite mushrooms. But it’s also the season for something less pleasant. Namely, the deer fly/ked(lipoptena cervi). A constantly recurring torment during the autumn. And we are going to tell you how to protect yourself against the nasty deer fly.
These little flies are usually encountered in Europe, Siberia, and northern China. So if you don’t live or plan to travel in those areas, you should be fine. Anyway… The deer fly is a small nasty animal that lands on a host. It then bites off its own wings to make it easier to crawl around and then starts sucking blood from its victim. The deer fly’s normal victims are deer, but they seem to enjoy human blood as well. Doesn’t that sound nasty?
The bite from a deer fly only causes discomfort, but that combined with the fact they’re hard to remove from your body can make them really annoying. If you are unlucky and a deer fly crawls into your hair, a comb is the best way to get rid of them.
A good thing is that the deer fly isn’t known to be dangerous to humans. However, it can spear certain diseases between animals. So maybe we should try to avoid them, just to be on the safe side.
