Everyone wants to save weight in their backpacks. One way of doing this is by opting out of equipment, choosing lighter equipment, or simply using what you bring a little smarter! In this case, doing laundry on the hike.

In this video, Beatrice shows how you can use a dry bag as an improvised washing machine in a very simple way. By doing this, you can carry fewer clothes during your trips, while maintaining slightly better hygiene. This trick can however be harder to do during cold and wet seasons when the clothes can’t dry as easily. But it’s a very useful trick everyone should know.

The basic idea is that a dry bag is something that many people always carry with them. And with the help of outdoor soap, bicarbonate, or birch leaves, you can easily freshen up your outdoor clothing. There are bags that are made to be used in a similar way (for laundry). But why buy another gadget when what you have is good enough?
